Household Hazardous Waste Collection

The Municipality seasonally operates Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depots during the summer months at the Geraldton and Longlac landfill sites. The depots are scheduled to be accessible during regular landfill operating hours beginning Saturday, June 5, 2021.

To make arrangements for hazardous materials that are not accepted at the depots, contact the Public Services Department at 854-1100 ext. 2029.  

The following designated materials will be accepted at the HHW depots, providing that they are identifiable (product labels are intact):

  • Antifreeze, and the containers in which they are contained
  • Fertilizers, and the containers in which they are contained
  • Oil filters - after they have been used for their intended purpose
  • Oil containers that have a capacity of 30 litres or less and that were manufactured and used for the purpose of containing lubricating oil
  • Pesticides and the containers in which they are contained
  • Paints and Coatings, and the containers in which they are contained
  • Pressurized containers
  • Single-use dry cell batteries 
  • Solvents, and the containers in which they are contained
  • Fluorescent light bulbs

Paint Exchange Program - Paint at the HHW Depots is available to the Public for re-use.  Restrictions apply to oil and oil-based paints. (Provincial regulations require the name of the paint recipient to be recorded.)

Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste collection events are coordinated in partnership with Stewardship Ontario, the Product Care Association and Automotive Materials Stewardship under the new Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (formerly Waste Diversion Ontario).
